Press Release 2008

Sabinsa Corporation today announced that it has secured a patent in Canada for its branded ingredient ForsLean® , a standardized extract of Coleus forskohlii roots, the only known plant source of forskolin, a natural compound that has been shown to increase lean body mass and help optimize body composition. Patent #2281562 protects the use and preparation of Coleus forskohlii extract and affirms that ForsLean is the only such extract that can legally be used in nutritional supplements for the purpose of increasing lean body mass in Canada.

Sabinsa recognized that increasing lean body mass was a critical component to overall health and fitness in the early 1990s, and has since supported this concept by commissioning eight clinical studies and numerous other preclinical and safety evaluations surrounding ForsLean. All research has shown that ForsLean can promote whole-body increases in lean body mass without harmful side effects," stated Vladimir Badmaev, M.D., Ph.D., vice president of scientific and medical affairs, Sabinsa Corporation. "ForsLean, in combination with meaningful lifestyle modifications, is an important component to redress the epidemic of obesity, which affects approximately 70 percent of the U.S. population."

Lean body mass is constituted by muscles, vital organs, bone and bone marrow, connective tissue and body water. Lean body mass is the percent of total body weight that is not fat. The percentage of lean body mass to fat determines the body's aesthetic appearance, but more importantly, it is an index of physical fitness, health status, susceptibility to disease and premature death. Lean body mass helps regulate the body's metabolism and actually regulates body fat to maintain it at healthy levels. ForsLean is an extract derived from Coleus forskohlii roots, and the only known plant source of forskolin, a natural compound that has been shown to increase lean body mass and help optimize body composition.

Sabinsa holds U.S. Patent #5,804,596 and European Patent #0977564 for the use of forskolin as a weight management ingredient and manufactures and supplies various extract strengths for use in a variety of supplements and products worldwide. Other international patents are pending. ForsLean continues to be a premier weight management ingredient across the globe and has been certified by NSF International, ensuring that it meets the industry's highest safety standards and is free of any potentially harmful impurities.
