Gymnema sylvestre, known in Ayurveda as ‘Madhunashini’, meaning “destroyer of sweetness,” has traditionally been recognized for its unique impact on the perception of sweet taste when the fresh leaf juice is experienced on the tongue. Its leaves have a bitter and astringent taste (Tikta–Kaṣāya Rasa), hot potency (Uṣṇa Virya), and pungent post-digestive effect (Kaṭu Vipāka). Classical Ayurvedic texts describe its traditional use in supporting healthy metabolism and helping balance (Kapha dosha). It is commonly used in powders, decoctions, and compound formulations. Yes, GS4 PLUS® has been clinically studied as part of a proprietary herbal formulation, GlycaCare II, which combines extracts of Gymnema sylvestre, Cinnamomum cassia, Pterocarpus marsupium, Momordica charantia, Salacia reticulata, Eugenia jambolana, and Piper nigrum.
